Oscillator Strengths in N, N+,O and O+ Obtained from the First Order Theory of Oscillator Strengths (FOTOS)

Abstract

While transitions of the type 1s22sm2pn → 1s22sm−12pn+1 can be reliably calculated for most multiply ionized systems1 results for neutral and singly ionized systems are more uncertain1. A second class of transitions presenting difficulties is those where a shell jump occurs. An example of the latter is the 2p4 3p-2p3 3s 3So resonance transition in O I for which the Restricted Hartree Fock (RHF) length value is .024, the velocity value .039 and the experimental value2,3 .048. Earlier work on this transition yielded no significant change of the RHF values.
