Raman Scattering by Local Plasmons and Electron-Hole Drops

Abstract

In the last few years a number of works appeared dealing with electron-hole drops in semiconductors, small metallic and semiconductor particles in a host lattice and gas cavities (voids) generated in metals under irradiation. In this report the localized plasma oscillations (LPO) in the above-mentioned systems and Raman scattering of light or x-rays by excitation of localized plasmons will be considered. The main attention will be given to some general questions of the nonuniform electron gas theory and to the investigation of LPO damping.
