Treatment Effects of Delta-9-THC in an Advanced Cancer Population

  • Chapter

Abstract

Descriptions of the typical subjective effects of marihuana usage abound in both popular and professional publications. For the most part, these studies utilize sociological and anecdotal approaches (Weil, Zinberg and Nelson, 1968). However, reports of systematic and objective research efforts dealing with the effects of ingestion of marihuana or its active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), on broad psychological cognitive and physiological processes are almost nonexistent. This lack of relevant research is attributable to a combination of legal, ethical, social, and methodological problems.
