Abstract
In Chapter 6, we developed equations governing the elastic deformation of solids in the presence of thermal effects. We now apply this theory to a number of illustrative problems. As in our earlier work on elasticity in Chapter 5, we restrict attention primarily to the case of static deformations. At the outset, however, we do consider briefly the influence of thermal effects on the dynamic response of solids by examining a problem involving free vibrations.
