Abstract

In this chapter the use of contraception is approached in relation to family development, with special attention to how fertility-regulating behaviour changes in the course of married life, i. e., how it is influenced by the changing composition of the family, by the fertility history, and also by the fertility-regulating behaviour itself. For, family-planning behaviour leads to a result. The question is, how this planning behaviour, via the result, influences itself through feedback mechanisms. Lastly, the role of some important fertility- differentiating social and cultural variables is discussed.
