Part of the The Subnuclear Series book series (SUS, volume 13)

The M.I.T. bag description of hadrons was greatly developed since I reported it here at Erice in 1974. Today I will give a personal interpretation of the fundamental ideas and of the recent developments. My interpretation may or may not be accepted by the authors and developers of this theory : A. Chodos, T. DeGrand, R.L. Jaffe, K. Johnson, J. Kiskis and C. Thorn, naturally all of M.I.T.*). I have not contributed much except what could be referred to as the necessary don’t-know-how.
