Part of the book series: Biological Separations ((BIOSEP))

Abstract

It has become customary to start reviews with a statement explaining why it has been impossible to encompass all the relevant literature in one short review, while presenting the basis for selection of those papers which are mentioned. This review is an exception; the references include every paper indexed under both “isoelectric focusing” and “muscle protein” since the former term came into general use, as well as a few others that have come to our attention in spite of their failure to be unearthed by the computer. Thus, any omissions represent failures of the indexers and/or this author to achieve complete coverage of this small branch of the literature rather than careful selections based on some arbitrary judgment of the merit or significance of a report.
