Abstract

Curriculum development, like many areas of education, has undergone several major transformations in the 20th century. Before I get to the main topic of this paper—the application of Piaget’s theory to the social studies curriculum—it is important to look first at curriculum development itself. I propose that an examination of the changes and emphases of the development of curriculum during this century will lead to the best understanding of the importance and application of Piaget’s theory.
