The Role of the Adherent Cell in Antigen-Antibody Complex Induced Immune Unresponsiveness

  • Chapter
Avian Immunology

Abstract

There is growing evidence which implicates antigen-antibody (Ag-Ab) complexes in the induction and maintenance of immune unresponsiveness (1–4). Eisen and Karush (1) proposed that a critical ratio of Ag to Ab was necessary for the establishment of tolerance. They postulated that complexes formed in Ag excess would be suppressive and this has recently been confirmed (4).
