Abstract
Most living organisms are made up of cells in which there is a nucleus containing the genetic information for the duplication of the cell and of the organism, and a surround of varying dimensions and function known as the cytoplasm. This genetic blueprint is in the form of a code built into the structure of the threadlike bodies called chromosomes, which make up the major component of the nucleus. Cytogenetics is the study of the relation of nuclear, or more properly chromosome, constitution and variation to the transmission of information at cell division and in reproduction (Hamerton, 1971).
