Summary
Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, N-acetyl-β-(p-tolyloxy)alanine was identified in the urine of rats treated with 3-(p-tolyloxy)-1,2-propanediol. Similary, N-acetyl-β-phenoxyalanine was identified in the urine of rats treated with 3-phenoxy-1,2-propanediol.
Thus the new metabolic conversion involving introduction of nitrogen which was found for the first time in the metabolism of Mephenesin, 3-(o-tolyloxy)-1,2-propanediol, was shown to occur also in the metabolism of the above two compounds.
