Marriage and marriage dissolution and the changing status of women: the case of Poland

  • Chapter
Demographic aspects of the changing status of women in Europe

Abstract

As the organizers of this seminar suggested, my paper poses the question whether and in what sense changes in the situation of women influence marriage, and vice versa. It was also suggested that the possibility of using quantification be explored. Status is a broad term since it calls for determining the place of the individual in society. It is also a very complex one for we must take account of the fact that an individual may occupy various positions in different social systems in the course of his or her life. This renders description difficult and restricts the precision and even the possibility of measurement.
