Abstract

This paper approaches divorce from a sociological rather than a demographic frame of reference. Sociologists tend to explain and try to understand what kind of changes occur in society, and so do demographers. It is my impression, though it may be an over-generalization, that sociologists focus on the societal relevance of their statements, whereas demographers pay more attention to methods, to measurement.
