Population and the status of women: results of the Bucharest and Mexico conferences

Background paper prepared by the Seminar Organizing Committee

  • Chapter
Demographic aspects of the changing status of women in Europe

Abstract

The subject ‘Demographic aspects of the changing status of women in Europe’ has been chosen for the Second European Population Seminar as a follow-up to both the World Population Year 1974 and the International Women’s Year 1975. The object of the Seminar is to study the relationship between population problems and the changes in the status of women in various European countries and regions. Though this study first of all serves scientific purposes, the possible relevance for policy should be kept in sight.
