Neurotransmitters of the Mammalian Visual System

  • Chapter
Amino Acids as Chemical Transmitters

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((NSSA,volume 16))

Abstract

The retina is a layered structure, easy to obtain, and well described anatomically (Stell, 1972; Dowling, 1970) and is therefore a structure suitable for neurochemical investigations. Up till now a huge amount of information has been gained on the localization of putative neurotransmitters in the retina by microdissection techniques and autoradiography, for review (Graham, 1974 Bonting, 1976; Voaden, this volume).
