Abstract
Rectal palpation is the single most important step in the physical examination for detecting carcinoma of the prostate and it is well recognized that when done routinely, there is an increased incidence of early disease detection (1). Though small nodular or indurated areas in the prostate may be readily palpable, the differentiation between benign and malignant lesions cannot be made by physical examination alone (2). The present report describes the use of transrectal prostatic ultrasonography as an adjunct in the evaluation and management of patients presenting with prostatic nodules.
