Epidemiology of Primary Neoplasms of Lymphoid Tissues in Animals

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Comprehensive Immunology ((COMIMUN,volume 4))

Abstract

This chapter will discuss the occurrence of lymphoid tumors of animals other than man to acquaint the interested reader with the epidemiology and etiology of these tumors. The term lymphosarcoma (LSA) will be used to describe tumors arising from lymphoid tissues that result in either discrete solid tumor masses or the diffuse infiltration of tissues and organs by neoplastic lymphocytes. The presence of neoplastic lymphocytes in the peripheral blood will be considered a manifestation of LSA, and will be termed a leukemic blood profile. This usage is somewhat different from the common usage in human medicine.
