Formation of Surface Compounds on Electrodes

  • Chapter
Topics in Surface Chemistry

Part of the book series: The IBM Research Symposia Series ((IRSS))

Abstract

The formation of new phases on electrodes is observed under many conditions which include: the cathodic deposition of bulk deposits of metals; the anodic deposition of bulk deposits of insulators (e.g. metal salts and oxides) and semi-conductors (e.g. oxides); the cathodic deposition of two-dimensional phases of metals; the anodic deposition of two-dimensional phases of insulators and of materials which are semi-conducting in the bulk state. In addition, certain transitions in the structures of adsorbed layers are related to phase formation.
