Abstract

The virions are bullet-shaped, 130–300 nm long, and 70 nm wide with a lipoprotein envelope containing peplomeres that cover an elongated nucleocapsid with helical symmetry. The virion contains five major proteins and an enzyme, the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. The RNA genome is linear and single-stranded, with a molecular weight of 3.5–4.6 × 106.
