Current Clinical Trials with Anticoagulant Therapy in the Management of Cancer Patients

  • Chapter
Hemostatic Mechanisms and Metastasis

Part of the book series: Developments in Oncology ((DION,volume 22))

Abstract

During the last 100 years clinicians and investigators have nurtured a growing suspicion that tumors profoundly alter coagulation function in humans. Accumulation of encouraging clinical and experimental data mandates that properly designed clinical trials be performed to determine the value of anticoagulants in the management of the cancer patient. One must appreciate the historical development in this field to evaluate the current prospective randomized clinical trials with an appropriate perspective.
