Abstract
During the early minutes to hours of an acute myocardial infarction there are major changes in both parasympathetic and sympathetic outflow to the heart and peripheral circulation. These changes in autonomic outflow may be important in the pathogenesis of ventricular arrhythmias and of the hypotension and bradycardia that occur frequently in this setting.
