Technical Problems in the Construction of Wigglers and Undulators for Free Electron Lasers

Abstract

The main features of wigglers and undulators for free-electron lasers are reviewed, together with some of the technical problems involved in their construction and operation in conjunction with a particle accelerator, either in single-pass or in recirculated beam mode. A few examples are presented in some detail; helical undulator, flat undulator with standard electromagnet and with permanent magnets, and very high field superconduction wiggler.
