In this chapter we complete the discussion of the noncharacteristic 2 theorem. Theorem 4.106 has reduced its validity to the following specific set of standard form problems:
  1. (I)

    Verification of Hypothesis S [see Section 4.3 for the exact statement of Hypothesis S, including the definitions of the families ℒO, ℒO* and 0(3)].

  2. (II)

    Determination of all locally balanced simple groups with the strong B-property that contain a standard component of Lie type of characteristic 2 or sporadic, but which is not an element of ℒO*.
