Optoelectronic Applications

  • Chapter
Thin Film Device Applications

Abstract

This chapter describes applications based on photoelectronic effects which arise due to direct interaction of the incident photons with electrons in the material. These photon—electron interactions give rise to a variety of effects which can be exploited for device fabrication. It should be made clear here that these effects do not include the ones which arise due to heating of the material by absorption of photons and are therefore thermal or bolometric effects.
