Abstract
The shortage of medical manpower to deliver basic health care to the rural areas has remained a perennial problem in many developing and even in developed countries throughout the world. In the rural areas where 70 to 80 percent of the population reside, the people do not have access to any system or form of basic health care. Traditional birth attendants (TBAs) have played an important role in the present health status of women and children in rural areas.
