Abstract
In December of 1977, the Program for Applied Research on Fertility Regulation (PARFR), held a workshop in San Francisco on the reversal of sterilization. Included in the program was a section of new potentially reversible techniques for sterilization of women. Included were presentations on tubal plugs placed either in the ostia, hysteroscopically (1), or through the fimbria at laparotomy (2). Droegemueller outlined his approach of placing the tubal fimbria in teflon stockings, and then burying them inside the broad ligament by a modified Aldridge procedure (3). The author reviewed and presented the concept of a fimbrial enclosure or fimbrial cap which could provide a reversible technique of female sterilization via minilaparotomy (4). The application of this approach to the developing country setting was emphasized.
