Abstract

QCD is asymptotically free. Short distance properties can be investigated by using perturbation theory. The rate by which the asymptotic behaviour is approached as the energy is increased is set by a scale parameter, by the so-called A parameter. A has the dimension of a mass. It is the basic external parameter of the theory, the “coupling” so to say. Its value is directly measurable in deep inelastic experiments.
