Magnetic Properties of Cubic and Hexagonal HoMn2

Abstract

HoMn2 crystallizes in the cubic Laves phase C-15 (Fd3m) structure which has two inequivalent sites, one for the Ho (a) and one for the Mn (d). The structure can be transformed to the hexagonal Laves phase C-14 (P63/mmc) structure by a careful annealing procedure. In this structure, the Mn occupies two sites (a and h), and the Ho occupies an f site.
