Magnetic and Structural Properties of Th6Mn2 3Dx and Y6Mn2 3Dx

Abstract

The magnetic behavior of the isostructural compounds Y6Mn2 3 and Th6Mn2 3 is drastically altered on hydrogenation (or deuteration). Y6Mn2 3 is a ferrimagnetic compound with TC = 486 K and a bulk magnetization value of 13 µB/f.u. (formula unit). The long-range magnetic order vanishes on hydrogen absorption. In contrast, Th6Mn2 3 is a Pauli paramagnet, while Th6Mn2 3H3 0 exhibits long-range magnetic ordering with TC = 329 K and a bulk magnetization value of 18.5 µB/f.u.
