Abstract

Most of the studies of the physiology of oligochaete worms have involved terrestrial species, and more is known of the physiology of earthworms than many other aspects of their biology. The reader is referred to a comparatively recent text, ‘The Physiology of Earthworms’ by M. S. Laverack (1963), for a more detailed treatment than is possible in the present work.
