Abstract
A unique heart disease called Ke-Shan disease (named for the county in northeast China where it was first noted) was reported in China in the 1930s (Jilin Medical University, 1977a). Up to the present time, Ke-Shan disease, thought to be related to selenium deficiency, has not been reported elsewhere in the world.
