The Role of Erythrocyte Amino Acids in Energy Metabolism

Abstract

Although there is much information regarding free amino acids in plasma, the amino acids of erythrocytes have been little studied (Felig, 1973; Felig et al., 1970; Levy and Barkin, 1971; McMenamy et al., 1960). However, accurate comparisons of the amino acid concentrations of plasma and erythrocytes can result in a better understanding of the relative role of these amino acid pools in energy metabolism.
