A Review of Charmed Particle Production in Hadronic Collisions

Abstract

A review of recent experimental results on the production of Charmed Particles in hadronic collisions is reported. Comparisons with theoretical predictions are made. Results from Neutrino beam dump experiments at the CERN SPS and direct muon production at Fermilab indicate that central production of Charmed mesons occurs with a total cross section of 10 to 20 microbarns. Charmed mesons and Baryons have also been observed at the CERN ISR with cross sections that appear to be considerably larger. Some recent experimental limits on the production of B particles are also reviewed.
