Application of Ultrafiltration Techniques to the Production of Human Plasma Protein Solutions for Clinical Use

  • Chapter
Ultrafiltration Membranes and Applications

Part of the book series: Polymer Science and Technology ((POLS,volume 13))

Abstract

Ultrafiltration is almost as old as protein chemistry; primitive set-ups have been used for a long time for exchanging salts and concentrating small samples on a laboratory scale. The low efficiency of the dialysis bags, however, prevented applications on a technical scale; alternative methods, e.g., lyophilisation and precipitation, had to be used, therefore, in industrial processes.
