Abstract
A summary of this conference is quite a challenge. Clinicians look at basic microbiological data differently than microbiologists because we are obviously confronted with different problems. I learned a great deal in preparing my comments. I’ve taken the liberty to separate the presentations according to how I viewed the various topics. I think the best place to start is at the patient’s bedside with the clinician.
