Abstract

Most of the tables of this book have been generated by machine (a Burroughs B6700 computer) from a small amount of input data. The resultant tables have then been arranged into lines, columns, and pages within the computer in preparation for typesetting. The typesetter (for the tables) was a minicomputer-controlled phototypesetter. The data transfer between machines was by paper tape. The user of the tables has two interests in our computer implementation of the methods herein: that of the accuracy of the printed tables of Chapters 12–16; and that of the availability of the tables in machine-readable form. We discuss these matters separately.
