Recoil Hadron Measurements in Muon Deeply Inelastic Scattering

Abstract

Most of the results to be discussed in this paper were obtained by a group of physicists from the University of Chicago, Harvard University, the University of Illinois, and the University of Oxford who performed a series of muon scattering experiments at Fermilab in the period 1973–1976. The principal reference for this paper and for the work on recoil hadrons done by this group is a paper in Physical Review listed here as Reference 1. For that paper only, all the authors names are listed to illustrate the number of scientists whose efforts were required over a six year period to produce the results to be discussed. I was privileged to work with this group the entire time and want to acknowledge here my debt to their hard work and cooperation; it made this talk possible.
