Book cover The Rare Earths in Modern Science and Technology

Abstract

Structure determinations by x-ray and neutron diffraction methods have shown that in metal selenites the anion may coordinate as a selenito, hydrogenselenito or diselenito ligand. Two rare earth selenite structures, viz. PrH3(SeO3) 2 (Se2O5) and Sc(HSeO3)3 (1,2), have been determined so far and they illustrate the different forms of the selenite anion. The present work was initiated in continuation of the earlier studies (1–3), and it resulted in the synthesis and characterization of a hitherto unknown type of rare earth compounds.
