Part of the book series: Ettore Majorana International Science Series ((SAAD,volume 4))

Abstract

We discuss in these two lectures a rapidly expanding field of particle physics: the search for PNC in atoms and molecules.1 In the first part we briefly review the present situation, discussing what can be measured and how it is that atomic experiments can be made sensitive enough to detect weak interaction effects and then listing the various schemes which have been proposed and/or are under way. A more detailed description of the Oxford, Washington and Novosibirsk optical rotation experiments and their implications is deferred to section 8.
