Abstract
The TNM classification of the UICC primarily aimed to describe the clinical extent of the malignancy without using surgical procedures except for the diagnostic biopsy. The purpose of the classification is to allow a comparison of various types of treatment (surgical, chemotherapeutic, radiotherapeutic, immunological etc.). It also helps in selecting the most appropriate type of treatment for the patient and in predicting prognosis.
