Abstract
Recent studies of collective magnetic dipole resonances in heavy nuclei will be reviewed with an emphasis on photoneutron experiments. In particular, the nuclear mass regions of 120, 140 and 208 will be discussed in detail. New very high resolution photoneutron studies of 208Pb will be presented. Applications of the photoneutron polarization method to the 208Pb(γ,no) 207Pb and 119Sn(γ,no) 118Sn reactions will be reviewed.
