Acetylcholine and Anterior Pituitary Hormone Secretion

  • Chapter
Brain Acetylcholine and Neuropsychiatric Disease

Abstract

This chapter deals with the effects of acetylcholine (ACh) on anterior pituitary hormone secretion. The literature is reviewed. In general, previous investigations of the effects of cholinergic stimuli indicate stimulation of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal-adrenal and gonadal axes. Cholinergic stimulation seems to inhibit prolaction secretion. Little information is available on growth hormone.
