Abstract
From the standpoint of relevance to this panel the term “internal energy partitioning” was interpreted very broadly. Thus, contributions to the session included discussion of the effects of reactant internal energy as well as the distribution of internal energy among accessible product final states. All participants reported experimental results, and a wide range of techniques were represented. For experiments in which reactant internal energy effects were studied flow drift tubes or selected ion flow tubes (SIFT) were the primary sources of data. Also included in this discussion was a report of ion fragmentation threshold measurements using photo-ionization. Various beam techniques were employed for study of product internal energy partitioning. These included kinematic analysis in beam gas and crossed beam apparatuses and detection of collision produced luminescence in a beam-gas setup.
