Advances in U.V. Stabilization of Polyethylene

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Polymer Science and Technology ((POLS,volume 26))

Abstract

Polyethylene grades account for about 30% of the total plastics production. Low density polyethylene (LDPE) accounts for about two thirds of that amount, high density polyethylene (HDPE) for the remainder. The bulk of HDPE (~ 60–80%) is used for blow molding and injection molding, a smaller part (~ 20%) for extrusion. By far the largest amount of LDPE is used for film manufacturing, agricultural applications being a major outlet for LDPE films.
