Part of the book series: Environment, Development, and Public Policy ((EDPC))

Abstract

This book is about people, their neighborhoods, and their relevant community of action. The research findings discussed in the following pages are organized to provide a greater understanding of the concept of community in the lives of urban residents today. The spatial distribution of the social relationships that people have with one another is analyzed, and the concept of neighborhood is then examined in terms of what forms of involvement, commitment, and investment individuals undertake in that area.
