Coupling of DSC and Dynamic Mechanical Experiments for Probing Processing-Structure-Property Relationships of Catalyst Modified High Performance Epoxy Matrices

  • Chapter
Analytical Calorimetry

Abstract

Structures fabricated from advanced composite materials are being included in critical, load bearing design applications due to their outstanding mechanical properties and light weight. The structural characterization of the composite matrix materials is important because the matrix controls physical properties such as shear strength, toughness, chemical resistance, and load transfer, as well as the processing requirements of the composite. The most common advanced composite matrix materials are high performance epoxy systems. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the processing-structure-property relationships for epoxy resins.
