Fir Laser Lines Optically Pumped in Methyl Chloride, CH 353 Cℓ and CH 353 Cℓ

  • Chapter
Reviews of Infrared and Millimeter Waves

Abstract

Optical pumping of CH3Cl has been reported under several operating conditions. Fetterman et al. (1972) obtained four FIR laser transitions by pumping methyl chloride with the TEA CO2 laser. Under these conditions, transitions can be pumped even if the coincidence is not perfect (this is called “off resonant optical pumping”, or in short, 0R0P). Although this provides a large number of pumping effects, 0R0P experiments are difficult to use for the analysis of CH3Cl itself since the separation between CO2 and CH3Cl transitions may be as high as 1 GHz.
