Abstract

When Breger and McGaugh (1965) reproached behavioral therapy for supporting the “foundations of its learning theory” mainly on analogies in linguistic usage, and pleaded that central mediators (as opposed to peripheral processes) and action strategies (as opposed to single behavioral actions) be granted more significance, it was still possible to dismiss them with an arrogant reply (Rachman & Eysenck, 1966).
