Abstract

Monoclonal antibodies offer considerable potential in earlier and more accurate detection of cancer and precise characterization of the malignancy. In breast cancer, monoclonal antibodies are being developed that are reactive with specific properties of human breast cancer cells that are highly associated with the biological behavior of the tumors -- particularly their propensity for early metastasis. Monoclonal antibodies are also being developed for use as specific enhancing and contrast agents in nuclear magnetic resonance imaging of primary and metastatic tumors of the breast.
