Abstract

Radiation therapy has conventionally been applied following surgical staging of Hodgkin’s disease. However, the risk of occult upper abdominal disease and the need for upper abdominal radiation despite a negative laparotomy are now well recognized. Furthermore, factors other than anatomical stage are increasingly influencing therapeutic choice. The present analysis defines a treatment approach for patients receiving radical irradiation for Clinical Stages (CS) I and II Hodgkin’s disease, based upon an analysis of outcome for the period 1968–1977.
